1. WHAT THIS PRODUCT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Napiers Joint Ability Herbal Remedy is a traditional herbal remedy containing Extracts of White Willow bark, Black Cohosh root, Scullcap herb, Yarrow herb and Burdock root. For full details see Section 6.
Napiers Joint Ability Herbal Remedy is a traditional herbal medicinal product used for the symptomatic relief of backache, rheumatic or muscular pain, and general aches and pains in the muscles and joints, based on traditional use only.
2. BEFORE YOU TAKE THIS PRODUCT
Do not take this product if you:
•are under 18 years old
• are pregnant or breastfeeding
• could become pregnant unless contraception is used.
• are allergic to any of the ingredients or to plants of the Asteraceae (Compositae) family
• if you are taking medicines known
to interact with alcohol eg. metronidazole
• are allergic (hypersensitive) to salicylates or to other NSAIDs (eg. have a history of serious allergic reactions (angiodema), difficulty in breathing or wheezing or chronic urticaria (raised itchy rash) in response to salicylates or other NSAIDs.
• have asthma
• have active liver disease or a history of liver damage, severe kidney disorders, blood clotting disorders, gastric or duodenal ulcer, peptic ulcer or have a glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
• are currently receiving treatment for or have a history of an oestrogen dependant tumour.
Important information about some of the ingredients in this medicine
This product contains 10.3% v/v ethanol (alcohol), i.e. up to 412 mg per 5 ml dose, equivalent to 10.3 ml beer or 4.29 ml wine. Harmful for people suffering from alcoholism or liver-disease. If you are in a high risk group (patients with liver disease or epilepsy) you should consider the alcohol content before taking this product.
This product contains 0.38 ml of sucrose, 0.056 ml of glucose and 0.03 ml of sorbitol per 5 ml dose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.
Important additional information
Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception.
This product is not intended to be used in cases of acute arthritis as this condition requires medical advice.
If you develop signs and symptoms suggestive of liver dysfunction. (Fatigue, anorexia, yellowing of the skin and eyes or sever upper stomach pain with nausea and vomiting or dark urine) immediately stop the use of this product and consult your doctor.
If you have a family history of an oestrogen dependent tumour and/or are taking oestrogens, please consult your doctor before taking this product.
Taking other medicines:
One of the active ingredients, Willow bark, may increase the effects of anti-coagulants such as courmarin derivatives.
Do not take this product with other salicylates or NSAIDs unless your doctor says it is safe to do so.
If you are taking these medicines or any other medicines including any bought without a prescription, consult your doctor or qualified healthcare practitioner before taking this medicine._
Driving and using machines
This product contains alcohol. If affected, do not drive or use machines.
3. HOW TO TAKE THIS PRODUCT
For oral use only.
Adult and the Elderly:
One 5 ml teaspoonfuls three times a day.
Do not exceed the stated dose.
If joint pain accompanied by swelling of joint, redness or fever are present, a doctor should be consulted.
If your symptoms get worse or persist for more than 4 weeks during the use of this medicinal product, speak to your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner.
If you take too much (overdose).
If you take more than the recommended dose, speak to a doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner and take this leaflet with you.
An overdose of this product may result in alcohol intoxication: the amount of alcohol in a full bottle (8.24 g in 100 ml; 16.48 g in 200 ml: equivalent to 0.34 or 0.68 large glasses of wine respectively or 0.82 or1.65 glasses of beer, respectively) may result in intoxication and should be treated accordingly.

If you forget to take this product
Continue to take your usual dose at the usual time.
Do not take a double dose. It does not matter if you miss a dose.

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Allergic reactions such as rash (including widespread rash) itching, hives, asthma, and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion, heartburn and diarrhoea have been reported with Willow bark. The frequency is not known.
In rare cases Black Cohosh may cause liver reactions (including hepatitis, jaundice and disturbances in liver function tests). Skin reactions (hives, itching, widespread rash), accumulation of fluid in the face and other parts of the body, and gastrointestinal symptoms (i.e. stomach pain, bloating and fullness, diarrhoea), weight gain and increase in liver enzymes have also been reported. The frequency is not known.
Allergic skin reactions have also been reported with Yarrow herb and anaphylactic shock (serious allergic reaction which causes difficulty in breathing or dizziness) has been reported with Burdock root. The frequency is not known.
If other adverse reactions not mentioned above occur, a doctor or a qualified health care practitioner should be consulted.

5. HOW TO STORE THIS PRODUCT
Do not use this product after the expiry date. The expiry date is printed on the label and on the bottom of the carton.
Do not store above 25SC. Store in the original container.
There are no special precautions for disposal.
Keep this product out of the reach and sight of children.

1ml of extract (as liquid extract) from White Willow Bark (Salixalba L.) (1:1) (equivalent to 1 gm White Willow)

Cohosh Root (Cimicifuga racemosa Nutt.) (1:1)
(equivalent to 75 mg Black Cohosh) Extraction
Solvent: Ethanol 90% v/v
0.15 ml of extract (as liquid extract) from
Scullcap (Scutellaria laterifolia L.) (1:1)
(equivalent to 150 mg Scullcap)
Extraction solvent: Water 0.5ml of extract (as liquid extract) from Yarrow Herb (Achilliea millefolium L.) (1:1) (equivalent to 500 mg Yarrow)
Extraction Solvent: Water 0.5ml of extract (as liquid extract) from Burdock Root (Articum lappa L.) (1:1) (equivalent to 500 mg Burdock Root)

Also contains glucose liquid, syrup (sucrose), glycerol. Cardamon tincture. Compound. (Cardamom oil. Caraway oil. Cinnamon oil. Beetroot powder, glycerol, ethanol and water). Nutmeg oil. Clove oil.
