This medicine has been prescribed for you personally and you should not pass it on to others. It may harm them, even if their symptoms are the same as yours.

1. What re in your medicine and what it is used for.
The name of your medicine is Flucloxacillin 250 mg or 500 mg Capsules. They contain either 250 mg or 5CO mg of flucloxacillin as flucloxacillin sodium monolv/drate.
The capsules also contain magnesium stearate and gelatine. The shell of the capsule is coloured with indigo carmine (El 32) and titanium dioxide (E171).
Flucloxacillin capsules are available in blister packs of 28 capsules.

Flucloxacillin sodium monohydrate is one of a group of medicines called antibiotics, which are used to kill bacteria, which cause infections in your body.
These infections include throat and chest infections, skin and soft tissue infections, meningitis, urinary tract infections and infections of blood and bones. It may also be used to prevent an infection occurring during surgery.
2. Before you take your medicine
You shoukl not take this me<icine and tell ycx* doctor if:
• You have had an allergic reaction (e.g. rash, itching, shortness of breath) to any penicillin antibiotic in the past (e.g. penicillin, ampicillin. amoxicillin or flucloxacillin).
If you have, this medicine may not be suitable for you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Flucloxacillin capsules.
Make sure your doctor knows if:
• You suffer from any kidney problems.
• You develop hepatitis or jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes).

Each Flucloxacillin 500 mg Capsule contains 25.3 mg of sodium. You should be aware of this if you are on a low sodium diet.
Taking other me<icines
If you are taking other medicines they may interfere with Flucloxacillin capsules, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following, and any medicines bought without a prescription.
- Probenecid, which is used to treat gout.
If you become pregnant or you are breast-feering
Tell your doctor as soon as possible if you are being treated with Flucloxacillin 250 mg or 500 mg Capsules and you are pregnant, you become pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding a baby.
3. How to take your medicine
The usual dose of Flucloxacillin for adults is one 250 mg capsule four times a day. In more serious infections this may be doubled to 500 mg four times a day. Your doctor may sometimes prescribe different doses from these. It is important to read the label on your capsules, as it will tell you precisely what dose to take.
Keep taking your medicine until you have finished the full course of treatment your doctor has prescribed for you. This will make sure the infection is completely cleared. Do not stop taking the medicine just because you feel better.
Flucloxacillin capsules are not suitable for use in children under 10 years. A liquid preparation of flucloxacillin should be given to children.
Flucloxacillin capsules should be taken half to one hour before food.
If you forget to take your medicine
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for the next dose, then continue as before. Never double-up on a dose to make up for one that you have missed.
If you take more capsules than you shoukl
It is important to follow the dose recommended on the label. If you take too many capsules by mistake, contact your doctor or local hospital casualty department at once.
4. Possible side effects
A few people may find that Flucloxacillin capsules gives them diarrhoea or upsets their stomach causing nausea and vomiting. If you suffer badly contact your doctor.
Tell your doctor immediately if you start suffering from a rash, itching or any other skin trouble. These may be signs of an allergy.
Very rarely, people have become jaundiced (yellowing of the skin) during treatment or some weeks after finishing treatment. If you notice this, tell your doctor immediately.
If you suffer from any other problems and think your medicine may be causing them tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
5. Looking after your medicine
Keep the capsules in a dry place at normal room temperature (below 25#C).
KEEP ALL MEDICINES OUT OF THE REACH AND SIGHT OF CHILDREN.
Do not use your capsules after the expiry date shewn on the label. If your capsules go out of date, or if your doctor tells you to stop taking the capsules, please return them to the pharmacist for safe disposal. Only keep the capsules if your doctor tells you to.
