1.    WHAT GINSANA® CAPSULES ARE AND WHAT THEY ARE USED FOR

Ginsana® Capsules is a herbal medicine. It contains the active ingredient Ginseng G115® which is extracted from the roots of the plant Panax Ginseng C.A. Meyer. See Section 6 for a complete list of all the ingredients.

Ginsana® Capsules are used to help treat people with poor general health or those recovering from illness or injury.

You may feel:

•    Run down

•    Exhausted

•    Nervous

•    Fatigued

•    Weak

•    A lack of motivation

•    You have difficulty concentrating.

The active ingredient Ginseng G115® works by raising the activity of cells in your body. This increases your physical and mental performance, helping you to regain your natural strength.

2.    BEFORE YOU TAKE GINSANA® CAPSULES Do not take Ginsana® Capsules if:

•    You are allergic to the active ingredient ginseng or any of the other ingredients listed in Section 6 of this leaflet

Do not take this medicine if any of the above applies to you. If you are not sure, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking this medicine.

Taking other medicines

Please tell your pharmacist or doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines. This includes medicines obtained without a prescription or herbal medicines. This is because Ginsana® Capsules can affect the way some other medicines work. Also some other medicines can affect the way Ginsana® Capsules works.

In particular, tell your pharmacist or doctor if you are taking any of the following:

•    Medicines to thin your blood called “coumarin anticoagulants" such as warfarin. This is because your doctor will need to monitor your blood before you start or stop taking Ginsana® Capsules

If any of the above apply to you (or you are not sure), talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking Ginsana® Capsules.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Do not take Ginsana® Capsules if you are pregnant, likely to get pregnant or are breast-feeding.

Important Information about some of the ingredients of Ginsana® Capsules

•    This medicine contains soya oil. If you are allergic to peanut or soya, do not take this product.

•    This medicine contains a small amount of lactose.

If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your pharmacist or doctor before taking this medicine.

3. HOW TO TAKE GINSANA® CAPSULES

Follow the instructions below. If you do not understand the instructions, or you are not sure, ask your pharmacist.

Adults

•    Take 1 or 2 capsules each day. Do not take more than this.

•    It is best to take your capsules with food. Take one capsule in the morning, preferably with your breakfast. If you are taking a second capsule, it is best to take this with your lunch.

How long to take Ginsana® Capsules for •You usually take this medicine for up to 12 weeks.

•    After 12 weeks, talk to your pharmacist or doctor if you would like to continue taking this medicine. They may wish to investigate your symptoms further.

Children

Do not give this medicine to children.

If you take more Ginsana® Capsules than you should

If you take more of this medicine than you should, talk to a doctor or go to a hospital straight away. Take the medicine pack with you.

If you forget to take Ginsana® Capsules

•    If you forget to take this medicine, take it as soon as you remember, with food.

•    However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose.

•    Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your pharmacist.

4.    POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Like all medicines, Ginsana® Capsules can cause side effects in some people, but these are usually mild and short lasting.

The following side effects may happen with this medicine:

•    Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)

•    Allergic reactions such as rash, itching and difficulty in breathing.

The side effects below are less likely to happen if you take this medicine with food:

•    Feeling sick (nausea)

•    Stomach pains

•    Diarrhoea.

If a side effect occurs and gets troublesome, or seems serious to you, or if you get a side effect not listed in this leaflet, please tell you pharmacist or doctor.

5.    HOW TO STORE GINSANA® CAPSULES

•    Keep out of the reach and sight of children.

•    Do not store above 25°C.

•    Keep the blister strip within the outer carton.

•    Do not use this product after the expiry date which is printed on the carton and blister label after EXP.

The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

•    Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

6.    FURTHER INFORMATION What Ginsana® Capsules contains

The active substance is Ginseng G115® which is extracted from the roots of the plant Panax Ginseng C.A. Meyer. Each capsule contains 100 mg of Ginseng G115®.

•    The other ingredients are lecithin, soy lecithin, rapeseed oil, wax mixture (a mixture of yellow beeswax, hydrogenated soya-bean oil and partially hydrogenated vegetable oil), ethylvanillin, lactose monohydrate and colloidal anhydrous silica.

•    The capsule shell contains gelatin, glycerol, iron oxide black (E172), iron oxide red (E172), ethylvanillin and Anidrisorb (a mixture of sorbitol (E420), mannitol (E421) and sorbitan).

What Ginsana® Capsules looks like and contents of the pack

This medicine comes as a brown soft gelatin capsule in a blister pack of 30 capsules.
