What the capsules contain. Each capsule contains: Ferrous Sulphate Exsicc. BP 195 mg, Folic Acid BP 1.7 mg, Thiamine Hydrochloride BP 1 mg, Riboflavine 2 mg, Ascorbic Acid BP 15 mg, Nicotinamide BP 10 mg. In addition to the above ingredients, the capsules also contain Vegetable Oil, Fat Mix, Lecithin, Coat, Gelatin, Glycerin, Sorbitol Solution, Potassium Sorbate, Black Iron Oxide, Carmine Red, Yellow Iron Oxide, Titanium Dioxide.
Pack sizes. Ironorm Capsules are available in packs of 25 & 100.
How the capsules work. Ferrous Sulphate is a source of Iron in a form that can be absorbed by the body. Folic Acid, Thiamine Hydrochloride, Riboflavine and Nicotinamide are all in the B group of vitamins. Ascorbic acid is Vitamin C.

What the capsules are for.
Ironorm Capsules are for the treatment of Iron and vitamin deficiency states.
Before you use Ironorm Capsules.
Do not use Ironorm Capsules if:
- You are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Ironorm Capsules if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant.
Precautions when using Ironorm Capsules
Be aware that oral iron supplements darken the stools and may therefore mask signs of bleeding into the gut.
Interactions with other medicines and with foods. The Iron in Ironorm Capsules may react with other medicines you are taking. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the medicines listed:
- Tetracyclines (antibiotics), absorption of both iron and tetracycline will be reduced.
- Chloramphenicol (an antibiotic), absorption of iron will be reduced.
- Penicillamine (a treatment for certain poisons), absorption of iron will be reduced.
- Antacids (for indigestion), absorption of iron will be reduced.
- Cholestyramine (to lower cholesterol), absorption of iron will be reduced.
Certain foods can also reduce absorption of iron. These include tea, eggs and milk.
Dosage.
One capsule to be taken by mouth, with meals, three times a day.
Do not exceed the stated dose.
If a dose is missed take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose.
Overdosage. If you have taken too many Ironorm Capsules, you should consult your doctor or hospital immediately, if possible you should take the packaging and this leaflet with you. Iron overdose is an acute medical emergency and requires urgent medical attention especially in children. Do not wait for symptoms to develop since the success of treatment is greatly improved by early treatment.
Undesirable effects. The medicine may cause some minor unwanted side effects.
These can include:- Appetite loss, nausea, vomiting, gut upsets, constipation, diarrhoea, dark stools and allergic reactions (such as rash and itching).
If these effects are severe or persist for more than a few days then discontinue use of the medicine and consult your doctor.
Reporting of side effects.
If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme at www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard. By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.
Storage. Store in a cool dry place. Do not use after the expiry date marked.
