1. What is Max Remedies Antiseptic First Aid Wash and what is it used for?
Max Remedies Antiseptic First Aid Wash is used to ease pain and help prevent infections from minor cuts and grazes, minor burns, scalds, blisters, stings and insect bites, spots and chapped or rough skin.
The spray contains two active substances, phenol and chlorhexidine digluconate. Phenol and chlorhexidine digluconate have antiseptic and cleaning properties for the disinfection of skin, wounds and burns. Phenol also has a local anaesthetic action for the relief of pain.
2. Before you use Max Remedies Antiseptic First Aid Wash
DO NOT use Antiseptic First Aid Wash:
• If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to phenol or chlorhexidine digluconate or any of the other ingredients of Max Remedies Antiseptic First Aid Wash (See section 6).
Special Warning and Precautions
Antiseptic First Aid Wash may in rare cases cause severe allergic reactions, leading to a drop in blood pressure and even to unconsciousness. Early symptoms of a severe allergic reaction may be skin rash or asthma. If you notice these symptoms, stop using Antiseptic First Aid Wash and contact your doctor as soon as possible (see under section 4. Possible side effects).
Use with care in newborn babies, especially those born prematurely. Max Remedies Antiseptic First Aid Wash may cause chemical skin burns.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding:
You may use the spray if you are pregnant or breast-feeding but as with all medicines at this time, you should discuss it with your doctor first.
3. How to use Max Remedies Antiseptic First Aid Wash
Follow the directions below carefully.
Before using the product for the first time, check that the bottle seal is not broken.
Adults and children:
1. Spray onto the affected area of skin to wash away any dirt and debris.
2. If necessary use cotton wool or a clean tissue to remove any remaining dirt and excess liquid.
3. Repeat this procedure until the wound is clean.
Do not use with soap.
If your condition does not improve, or a skin irritation, rash or any other effects not mentioned occur, stop using and consult a pharmacist or doctor.
If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
This spray is for external use only.
Avoid contact with your eyes, ears and mouth and do not use as a mouthwash or gargle.
If you accidentally spray this product in your eye, wash thoroughly with lots of water and tell your doctor straight away or contact your nearest Accident and Emergency Department.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Max Remedies Antiseptic First Aid Wash can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Rarely, you may experience local irritation, rash or other skin reactions at the site of application after applying the spray.
Frequent application of the spray to the same area for long periods of time or over large areas of skin may lead to skin irritation.
If you experience any of the following reactions stop using Antiseptic First Aid Wash and get immediate medical help:
Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat; a red itchy skin rash; wheezing or difficulty breathing; feeling fain and dizzy; a strange metallic taste in the mouth; collapse. You may be having an allergic reaction.
If you develop a rash or your skin becomes itchy, red, dry or inflamed where you have used the product as a skin wash, stop using it and talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
If you are concerned about this, or if the spray affects you in any other way, stop using Max Remedies Antiseptic First Aid Wash and tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme at: www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard
By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.
5. How to store Max Remedies Antiseptic First Aid Wash Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
The product should be stored in its original carton. Do not use Max Remedies Antiseptic First Aid Wash after the expiry date which is stated on the end flap of the carton and the side of the bottle (marked ‘EXP’). The expiry date refers to the last date of that month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

What Max Remedies Antiseptic First Aid Wash contains:
The active substances are phenol 1.2% w/v and chlorhexidine digluconate 0.25% w/v.
The other ingredients are alcohol, cocamidopropylamine oxide, bitrex, perfume, colour (ponceau 4R (E124)) and water.
What Max Remedies Antiseptic First Aid Wash looks like and contents of the pack:
Max Remedies Antiseptic First Aid Wash is available in bottles containing 50ml, 100ml, 150ml or 200ml of a clear pale pink liquid with a characteristic odour (not all pack sizes may be marketed).
