5. How to store Paracetamol 500 mg Tablets

Keep out of the reach and sight of children

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the blister and the carton after EXP Do not store above 25°C.

Do not dispose of medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

What Paracetamol 500 mg Tablets contain

The active substance is paracetamol. Each tablet contains 500 mg of paracetamol.

The other ingredients are: magnesium stearate, maize starch, povidone K-30, docusate sodium and anhydrous colloidal silica.

What Paracetamol 500 mg Tablets look like and the contents of the pack

The tablets are white and capsule shaped marked with 'PARA 500' on one side and M+ on the other side. Paracetamol 500 mg Tablets are presented in blister strips which are then packaged into cartons of 16, 32 or 100 tablets (8 or 10 tablets per blister strip).

1. What Paracetamol 500 mg Tablets are and what they are used for

These tablets contain paracetamol and are used for the relief of mild to moderate pain including headache, migraine, tension headaches, neuralgia, backache, toothache, sore throat, period pain, symptomatic relief of sprains, strains, rheumatic pain, sciatica, lumbago, fibrositis, muscular aches and pains, joint swelling and stiffness, influenza, feverishness and feverish colds. It may also be used for symptomatic relief of pain due to non-serious arthritis.

2. Before you take Paracetamol 500 mg Tablets Do not take Paracetamol 500 mg Tablets:

•    If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to paracetamol or to any of the other ingredients listed in section 6

•    If you are taking other paracetamol containing products

Take special care and tell your doctor:

•    If you suffer from liver or kidney disease, including non-cirrhotic alcoholic liver disease

•    If you are on a sodium controlled diet

Taking other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medication, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

In particular, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following:

•    Medicines used to thin your blood e.g warfarin, coumarins

•    Medicines used to control nausea and vomiting e.g metoclopramide, domperidone

•    Medicines used to control high levels of fat or cholesterol in your body e.g colestyramine

•    Antibiotics such as chloramphenicol

•    Medicines used to control seizures such as carbamazepine

•    Medicines used for stopping cancer cells from multiplying such as Busulfan injection

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking these tablets if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or are breastfeeding.

3. How to take Paracetamol 500 mg Tablets

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Dosage in adults and children over 12 years:

One or two tablets every 4 hours if required. Do not take more than 8 tablets in any 24 hours. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water.

Dosage in children aged 6 to 12 years:

Half or one tablet every 6 hours if required. Do not take more than 4 tablets in any 24 hours. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water.

When taking this medicine, it is important to remember the following:

•    DO NOT GIVE THESE TABLETS TO CHILDREN AGED UNDER 6 YEARS

•    Do not exceed the stated dose

•    Do not take other paracetamol containing products whilst taking this medicine.

•    If symptoms persist talk to your doctor, if you find you are taking Paracetamol every day for arthritis pains you should discuss this with your doctor.

If you take more Paracetamol 500 mg Tablets than you should

Immediate medical advice should be sought in the event of an overdose, even if you feel well, because of the risk of delayed, serious liver damage. There may be no symptoms during the first 24 hours although paleness, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain may occur.

If you forget to take Paracetamol 500 mg Tablets

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Paracetamol 500 mg Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Serious Side Effects

Serious allergic reactions can occur and may cause:

•    difficulty breathing

•    swelling of the face, throat, lips or tongue

•    skin rashes and itching

•    unusual bruising or bleeding, throat and mouth ulcers or bleeding gums accompanied by tiredness and flu like symptoms

•    Changes to your liver which may cause yellowing of the skin and / or eyes

If you experience any of these side effects contact your doctor IMMEDIATELY or go to your nearest hospital casualty department.

Tell your doctor or your pharmacist if any of the side effects get serious or if you notice any other unwanted or unexpected effects.
