5 How to store Valdrian
Do not use the capsules after the expiry date.
The expiry date is printed on the pot label. Return any unused capsules to your pharmacist who will dispose of them for you.
Store below 25°C in the original package.
Keep all medicines out of reach and sight of children.
6 Further Information
Each hard capsule of Valdrian contains the following active herbal ingredient:
Valerian root 400mg (Valeriana officinalis L.).
There are no other ingredients in Valdrian.
The capsule shell is made from hypromellose.
Each pot of Valdrian contains 60 capsules.

1 What Valdrian is and what it is used for
Valdrian is a traditional herbal medicinal product used for the temporary relief of mild anxiety and to aid sleep, based on traditional use only.
2 Before you take Valdrian
Do not take if you:
- are allergic to the ingredient (see section 6).
- are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- are under 18 years of age.
- are already taking a medicine for sleep or anxiety.
Tell your doctor if you have an intolerance to any of the ingredients.
This product may cause drowsiness. If you are affected do not drive or operate machines.
The effects of this product may be increased by alcohol. Excessive use of alcohol should therefore be avoided.
3 How to take Valdrian
Dosage
For oral use only.
Swallow the capsules whole with water. Do not chew the capsules. Adults and elderly:
To relieve mild anxiety: Take 1 capsule 3 times daily.
To aid sleep: Take 1 capsule 30 minutes before bedtime, with an additional dose earlier in the evening if necessary.
Maximum daily dose: 4 capsules
As the effects of this product may not occur immediately, the capsules should be taken continuously for 2 - 4 weeks.
Do not exceed the recommended dose.
This product is not suitable for children or adolescents under 18 years old.
If you take too much Valdrian (overdose)
If you take more than the recommended dose, see a doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner and take this leaflet with you.
If you forget to take Valdrian
Continue to take your usual dose at the usual time; it does not matter if you have missed a dose.
If you are unsure about anything relating to Valdrian
If you have any questions, or are unsure about anything, please ask your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner.
4 Possible side effects
Like all medicines this product may have side effects.
These include:
- Nausea
- Abdominal cramps
If these persist or become troublesome stop taking the product.
If you notice any other side effects after taking Valdrian, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.
If your symptoms of mild anxiety and/or sleeplessness worsen, or do not improve after 4 weeks, consult your doctor or qualified healthcare practitioner.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme at: www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard. By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.
